Treatment Philosophy

Welcome to my practice, where your treatment is as individual as you are. We strive to provide you with excellent personal service and focus on the quality of your result. Teamwork with our patients and their families is essential to help you achieve an optimal result for the correction of your problem. We all want the same great result - a gorgeous white smile and healthy straight teeth without gum problems. As no two orthodontic problems are identical, your treatment will be customised to meet your specific needs. This site will help you become familiar with our procedures and your role during treatment.

My practice philosophy incorporates orthopaedic, orthodontic and orthognathic approaches to correct problems with the development of the face, the bite (occlusion) and the alignment of teeth. To get the best result in a minimum of time, a combination of these techniques may be used for your treatment.

Phase One - Orthopaedics

Refers to treatment undertaken prior to full fixed appliances (braces) are placed. It usually involves expanders or plates to widen or correctly align the jaws before the individual position of the teeth are finalised with braces. Phase one therapies are used in orthopaedics or growth modification protocols. The aim at this stage of therapy is to intercept and prevent a malocclusion (bad bite) from fully developing and to correctly develop the maturing jaw structure into the proper proportions transversely (width) vertically (height) and sagitally (profile view) to establish the best facial balance in harmony with the functional demands of the entire cranio-facial complex.

Phase Two - Orthodontics

Braces are small attachments that are bonded individually to the teeth. That is the best method to correctly align each tooth to provide a highly aesthetic smile and functional occlusion. They can be made of metal or a clear ceramic material. Your teeth are gradually straightened by working through a progressive series of wires. Treatment moves through a number of stages until finally the bite is corrected and the teeth are properly aligned. Duration of treatment can vary depending on the degree of difficulty of your case, but generally 18-24 months of active appliance wear is expected.
